Thank for the suggestion. Sounds complicated. i did experiment printing an Ecco Notepad to a pdf file. Then I ran the pdf file through Nuance  Omnipage Ultimate (OCR) and saved the result as a docx file. Results were quite readable, but editing the Word file was tricky.
