OSX is based on BSD which like GNU/Linux, has a design similar to Unix. 
Unlike the proprietary software company Microsoft, Linux's developers
have expressed a commitment to maintaining compatibility with older
Windows applications that are able to run on GNU/Linux (a Free Open
Source application, itself) via Wine.

Windows retains it's name, not compatibility.
