Thanks for your help, r634718.  But I don't understand why a date 
manually entered would be discarded, just because a filtered view is 
being used.  I didn't click on the Date field -- I clicked on an 
adjacent field, moved (with tab or arrow keys) the cursor into the Date 
field and then typed in the desired date.  Why does Ecco not accept the 
date entered in that fashion?

Your suggestion in the second para is a good one, and I will do that.  
That simplifies the necessary manual editing, but does not explain why 
the problem arises in the first place.
