Friedhelm opened a support ticket and guided me through a solution to my problem. Rather than attempt a description of what was done, I would just advise others with such issues to request the same service.
Like many of us, I suspect, I have come to rely so heavily on Ecco in organizing my activities that it feels almost like an existential crisis when it is not working. This is a great relief -- noch 'mal vielen Dank, Friedhelm!

Maybe it’s a knows issue. Try to run Ecco under Administrator account, if there is no error that’s an known problem existing from XP times and relating to writing privileges for some registry keys. You may either re-install Ecco (if an installer will work under Win10) or try to correct the issue manually. You may search this group for more details.(see for example https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/eccopro/conversations/topics/9619) Alternatively, you may use Ecco in a portable (USB) mode with Eccoext. (This certainly works under Win10) And please share here your experience with all of us.
