Exactly.  If you only modify values manually, it's typically not a big issue as long as you open the sync'd copy after a sensible amount of changes and let the changes download from the .ecg to the other sync'd file.  But if values update automatically, it's a different story.  If, for example, you have EE rules that use say the "S" flag (or the equivalent "auto-flag") then it's possible that could modify as many as potentially tens of thousands of item values automatically in each of the sync'd files every time they are opened.  All of those changes would have to be written to and read from the .ecg. upon each opening of any sync'd copy of the file.  That just overwhelms the syncing process and instead of growing and then shrinking the .ecg just keeps growing forever.  So it doesn't work well in files with that kind of scenario.
