re Context parents: items shown in green in Ecco (or blue in IQ) that are parents of items. Say your grid is set to show a set of items. Showing context parents gives you "context" ! You can show / hide context parents and specify how many levels of parents to show. If an item has multiple parents, one has the status of "main parent" and it is shown. You can set any parent as the main parent
re Mail: IQ does not aim to be en email client but it can poll and import mail from an email address. You "could" have it pull all your gmail, but that would seem an overkill. I recommend setting up an EMailToIQ address (hey, it's free) and forward relevant stuff to it. It is also a great way to capture stuff, whether on your computer or on a mobile device. Not sure what a context parent is, but I suppose I will find out later.
The other thing that I feel ecco pro lacks is integration with email.
What is the best way to connect to my gmail? (if that is not possible, to a email handler - i will have to have it set up to see my gmail) I dont need anything fanciful, just some basic integration with email.

There are a couple of ways:
1- Drag-drop an item to the new parent while holding the Ctrl key (a "+" is displayed to indicate that you're not moving the item, but rather adding a new parent.
2- You can mark items (Item > mark item) and then go to the "to be parent" item and do Item > Add marked item as children.
There may be others, but those are the two that comes to mind
The Properties pane has a Parents section which helps managing parents (Set as main parent, Delete Parent, Delete all other Parents).
FYI, the main parent is the one shown as context parent if the display is set to display context parents (and up to which level they are displayed)
