Perhaps you should outline step by step what you are doing after you get
the error message. It sounds like you shut ecco down with Task Manager,
then attempt to restart, find it won't restart, and then uninstall
reinstall. Is that correct?
A couple of possibilities... are you sure eccopro is completely shut
down? In other words, after shutting down with Task Manager, does ecco
appear in the Processes pane at all? Sometimes I have shut down
programs, only to find some vestige of it still running in the
background. You need to be sure it is completely shut down, probably.
Another way to do that would be to restart your machine after a Task
Manager shut down. Then see if you can start ecco.
Now, it may be that there is something wrong with your actual files.
Hopefully not, but they can be corrupted. So, a couple of cautionary
items. I would search your drive for any backup files that Ecco may have
created. If your file is called MyEccoFile.eco, then you should have
MyEccoFile.bk1, MyEccoFile.bk2 also in that directory. I would make a
copy of all these files and put them in a different directory before
attempting any repairs. That way you data hopefully can be preserved if
something goes southin the process.
Another thing, can you launch eco without a file open? Go to your Ecco
program directory, find eccopro.exe,right click, and Run. It should open
up with ablank ecco file.
If yes, try to save that file as something ... MyXperiment.eco, or
whatever.
Then try to close it.
If you can complete all these steps, I would say that perhaps something
has gotten corrupted in your actual file.
So, taking your file, there is a way to recover the file.You will lose
any print setups if youhave any, as well as font settings and so on. But
you can hopefully recover all data. But before you take this step (it is
drastic) try the other steps first.The first thing is to be sure ecco is
working. After that, work on your file.
