Simple MSDOS command dir

Hello, as i have  difficulties in getting aspell accept a command line,
i tried the simple dir command
RUN "dir" WAIT 
and get an error message (cannot find dir)
In the MSDOS window, i cannot find the path using
>where dir
What did i miss?
