I agree with most of the comments on MS but if you take half a year to ramble through
the MSDN jungle, you'll find out that MCI has some useful extra features.

It can play mp3's with ID3-tags and it can play mov and mp4 video. Actually everything
for which a DirectShow codec is installed on your system.

I uploaded "mci_audio_video_pack.7z" to the files GUI section with a modified mp3 player
and a script that I derived from some old Avanti code (it now use a DirectShow player).
There's a read_me file included with some details.

I hope it are useful examples,

 MCI is one of my favorite ranting subjects... I can't play mp4's, movs and many other formats, there is very little control and many things don't work. A company like MS, richer than most countries, could easily assign 2-3 programmers the task of making such an important component better. Instead they're trying to destroy windows...
