Try TortoiseSVN and use the ‘diff’ tool from there. It will automatically
(i.e., via a script) ask Word to compare the docs for you. Looks good to me!

 

Another approach would be to search for ODF diff tools and use that format.
I just guess that ODF being popular with open source developers there is a
chance that more people have developed diff tools for that format…

 

But if you really want to do text comparison I guess Latex can be your
friend.

I'm starting to work on a book writing project with at least one other
co-author. I'm hoping to find tools that are better than token passing -
i.e. emailing the files back and forth.

I hoped .docx would be useful but there is so much binary gunk in there that
I can't read them and so can't read the differences.

Any other approaches?
