No Herb, I use CAD all the time.  You need precise selection, but not pinpoint.  The pinpoint positioning is the job of the CAD system, not the mouse.  You say I want this to the end of that, or center of that, or to this grid line or to this keyed-in length.  I haven't used the apple pad so I don't know how vague its positioning is, but I was going by the previous note that said it works extremely well.

I've never heard of an ArchD sized tablet.  Are you talking a giant touch screen?  (I know drafting boards and D-sized paper.)  You might be right that a finger is too imprecise and a stylus is required.

It's because you're not an engineer, or if you are, you've never used a drafting program. We have people that still use large (ArchD sized) tablets for drafting. You need the precision. A tablet gives you all the advantages of a touch, but with absolute pin-point control. A mouse can approximate that pretty well; a finger can't. Not to say that there wouldn't be some use for a touch pad, but I'm not seeing it for that kind of work.
