apps vs. web sites (was RE: VS 2012)

I'm a keyboard guy, so I find most apps far more usable via the keyboard then web sites. Also, I find apps "feel" more like something build for the OS I'm using instead of the LCD that runs everywhere.

Changing the subject a bit, I seriously don't get "apps".  While I'm enjoying checking out Windows 8 apps, I am already totally overwhelmed by the sheer number of existing Windows 8 apps.  Does it matter whether there are 100 or 1 million or 1 billion apps, really?

The other thing is, while some of the apps are fun to check out, after a few minutes you are done with them forever.  And all of them, except for games, are just as good or better on the web, and certainly more convenient to use on the web.  And there is no way that I'm paying for these silly things.

Live tiles are a fine solution for creating a start screen dashboard.  But I'd prefer most of them to just open up to web pages. And once you've got weather, stocks, email, calendar, and perhaps a few other things, what else is there?  And do we even want more little distractions in our lives?

I don't get the need or desire for  "apps".  Perhaps I am too busy and of another generation.
