Re: apps vs. web sites (was RE: VS 2012)

These are version 0.1 apps, so don't expect much yet.  If you have a desktop and a dozen full-fledged applications, there isn't much need for these little things.  But if you don't have Photoshop, but want to process images in a certain way, there may be an app for that.

Changing the subject a bit, I seriously don't get "apps".  While I'm enjoying checking out Windows 8 apps, I am already totally overwhelmed by the sheer number of existing Windows 8 apps.  Does it matter whether there are 100 or 1 million or 1 billion apps, really?
 
The other thing is, while some of the apps are fun to check out, after a few minutes you are done with them forever.  And all of them, except for games, are just as good or better on the web, and certainly more convenient to use on the web.  And there is no way that I'm paying for these silly things.
 
Live tiles are a fine solution for creating a start screen dashboard.  But I'd prefer most of them to just open up to web pages. And once you've got weather, stocks, email, calendar, and perhaps a few other things, what else is there?  And do we even want more little distractions in our lives?
 
I don't get the need or desire for  "apps".  Perhaps I am too busy and of another generation.
