I've tried upgrading my main system three times now. Every time it ended
with a Frowny Face of Death. On the plus side, the rollback works very well

I know some people say you should do a clean reinstall, but I really don't
like to do a clean install. I last did a clean install when going from XP to
64 bit Vista and I'd prefer to upgrade again.

Yes, this is really mind boggling. The other thing that *really* annoys me
is that the start menu search is now segmented. Other than these two things
I think Windows 8 is not too bad (besides my main system I have three other
systems that are all running Windows 8).

Yeah, they may have been a bit too conservative with that. Instead of
assuming by default that CLR v2 apps aren't compatible they could have
assumed they are and require people that aren't to have an app.config that
bans v4 instead of the other way around.
