I certainly don't have any inside knowledge as to what is going on, but I'm
not sad to see him go. When he came over from Office I was very worried,
because IMNSHO Office has always sucked tremendously (from a Microsoft
shareholder pov things might look different ;-)) and I worried he would
bring the same to Windows, but I have to admit that overall he did a pretty
good job on Windows. I like both 7 and 8 a lot. I even managed to upgrade my
main system to 8 (after disabling the Unix Services, which caused the
previous upgrade attempts to fail).

Many (outside) people were suggesting that he could be the successor to
Ballmer, but given the enemies that he made (especially in DevDiv, I think)
that would not have been a good thing.

People (still) make fun of Ballmer's "Developers, Developers, Developers"
yell, but I'd pick that any day of the week and twice on Sunday over
Sinosfky's (intentional?) fumbling of the .NET development story on Win8
when it was first shown to the world.
