If you want to investigate further, a few questions: 

 How are you skinning the menu?  Are you using the command list properties to set colors etc?  If so, which options?

 

 (Please note I do not support *skin any longer since almost all options are available from the dialogs).
 

 Are you using a Windows skinning tool other than Windows itself?
