Sorry, I lost a double quote after e.destroy when I copied and pasted.    Could you try again with 

 I copy from my More Coomands; I tested with a hot key
 global e=event.create(2,10,"keys abc\re=e.destroy",?=visiblewindow("*notepad*")=)

 I agree destroythis seems to have a defect;  it's not an incompatibility, it's just a plain bug, I think.  I looked at the code but there was nothing obvious.  I'll investigate in more detail over the next few days.
