I'd try running Omar's installer to get all the registry settings and file
associations done, then update to the latest build from lsdev.org (the last
beta, 2007-01-23, IIRC, has worked great for me), and install a newer theme from
ls-themes.org, nbi-studio.com, or ls.net. West's popsicle is very nice,
immortal's Obsidian is very slick (although not the thing if you're into
minimalism), n4orcer's EcyStep is a good basic theme, Ashtefere's Insight is a
sleek looking theme, too. !mulestem's ColorBar doesn't have tons of features,
but it's an interesting design, IMO. BigDaddy's got some nice themes out there,
too; I think Reluna2 is his latest.

You might also give LOSI a try - it's the new installer from THC4k. I haven't
had a chance to really exercise it yet, but I think it's just about ready for
primetime.

The newest stuff using the xModules may require Andymon's xpaintclass and
xstatsclass DLL's (sort of like library modules, in the manner of lsapi).
Netloadmodule can handle these now, although it couldn't initially. Depending on
the vintage of the theme there may be some "funnies" with the installation of
these (e.g., a manual DL may be required). Visit ls-universe.info for the latest
on all of those, then check out West's new forum if you have questions.
