Yep, unfortunately it's a known problem. Whatever "hooks" are in explorer to 
interact with the update service are not reproduced in LS - and presumably not 
documented either, or else they would be. I've just gotten into the habit of 
going to the windows update site whenever I notice that behavior. Apply the 
patches, reboot if necessary, and you're good until the next round. 
Alternatively you can disable the update service completely, and then just 
remember to update manually on a regular basis, e.g., after "Patch Tuesday".
