I'm sure Brian could be infinitely more helpful than I, but I do believe 
lsxcommand has an alias feature, which you could create several aliases 
to pump the commands to a program.
Or, using textedit and aliases, you could create aliases, such as: 
@phone Tell mother etc... which does all the textedit stuff to todo.txt
