Hullo,

I've just installed Vista in a side-by-side setup with XP, and even
though I haven't gotten around to testing LS on it yet (need to build
from the latest source), I've been thinking a little about the way
Vista handles it's windows. The way the Desktop Windows Manager (DWM)
in Vista does it is to buffer all windows offscreen, and then put them
together as is needed (for more info see this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/greg_schechter/archive/2006/03/05/544314.aspx ).
This is what gives Vista the possibility to do things like real time
updating previews for tasks and such.

Now, as the customizer/modder I am, I start thinking that this is
something LS should be able to make use of. Not through the core of
course, but through modules. Think taskbars and VWM: At the moment
explorer does something LS does not, i.e. show previews of tasks when
you hover them in the taskbar. For VWM this should open up a bunch of
stuff (think something ala Beryl for Linux, even though that's a bit
over the top of what one would want/need). I'm not saying we should
make a Beryl replica for windows (that could be done with a standalone
app), what I'm saying is that there are a couple of new possibilities
that open up for cool things to integrate into the shell.

I'm not really sure if there's much to get out of this, but I thought
I'd vent my thoughts a bit on the list since I know there's a bunch of
really creative people here (and also since it's been rather quiet
lately). At least this way if nobody comes up with anything I'll feel
better about not coming up with anything too exciting either :3
Dunno, but I keep thinking that it should be able to something
sci-fi-ish with this :P
