module debug problem.

Hi, 
I need to debug a module using gdb. How to do that?
Or how can I compile Xfree with static options?

My problem is :
When I start X (cvs version, several savage, xinerama on), it seems to
initialise each chips twice. And it use the double of the "normal"
memory mapping. And, with a lot of boards, some chips cannot be mapped.

It's working with XFree 4.1 but not with 4.2 .. If someone has an idea.
