I don't know if you'd call it easy, but it's possible. I do this by
setting ProjectRoot to somewhere in /usr/local and creating symlinks
there pointing to the build tree. You don't even need to shut down the
current X, gdm makes it particularly easy to run multiple sessions with
different X servers.
