On a related note, does anybody see any value in a kernel-like 'xfree86-janitors' group? The pros (IMO): * provides a structured way for new developers to be eased into the project. * provides a convenient place to point ppl who want to help but are not sure about *how* to do so. ie they have more of a rash than a specific itch. ;-) * provides a very basic form of code audit. The cons: * It has the same problem as a newbie list; unless an established X hacker has the copius free time to babysit^H^H^H^H lead the group it will go nowhere. I'd hope that it's focussed and directed nature would provide *some* mitigation to the pain of dealing with newbies. * There's no guarantee that such a group would do anything useful. * In fact, it's very possible that it could become disruptive and distracting. Any opinions? If there is a general consensus that this would be a Good Thing, I'd suggest that it be implemented immediately rather than having it blocking on higher level issues being resolved. - -- b - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Biju 'botsie' Chacko biju_chacko at vsnl dot net http://www.symonds.net/~botsie Public Key available on request - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+rK+iu9EABfMBafoRAgoeAJ9rB+9N1kJfEstofAk/q/q8d2/vmgCfV5AV 07aVFlpM3k5ogDXbvrIr8o0= =svgO -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
