How many times do we have to say it:

 The remote nature of X almost never shows up in our profiles of 
 real-world toolkits, desktops, and apps.

Profile your desktop sometime, see where the speed problems are, and
post the hard data. Anything else is just speculation.  And there is
no point speculating when other people have already looked at real
data and told you what it indicates.
