X was very nearly an ANSI standard at one point; we had a 'ringer' on the 
committee who suggested that X be reformulated in terms of ASN.1/BER at 
which point we just stopped dealing with them and withdrew.  However, if 
there was an interest, we have the advantage of a protocol document in 
official language all ready to go...
