My experiences with ISO has been quite good, and I do not
think they are exceptionally slow.

It is not that they should take over that process of
standardizing X, but rather a cooperation. For example
the current standardization of POSIX was done as a cooperation
between IEEE, The Open Group and ISO.

A lot of core Linux technology is standardized by ISO,
eg the POSIX kernel, the POSIX utilities, C and C++,
and the character sets. 

My idea was to standardize the core X APIs - which have
been stable for many years. It was not the idea initially
to standardize new APIs, though that could come later.
