This brings up the question... Why is it that top and ps include virtual mappings that don't take up and real memory or swap? Is it useful the way it is now? It's certainly misleading. For many users it's difficult to know how much memory the server is really using because they don't know how much memory is being mapped. I only know the real memory usage because I know how much memory I mapped so I can subtract it from what top reports.
