XFree86 configuration for S3 ViRGE/DX/GX

I've managed to install FreeBSD 4.7 on a Compaq 4824 (PII 233, 64M, 6G; 5
years old).  The video adapter for the computer is an S3 ViRGE/DX/GX.  I've
tried using a number of the drivers and the S3 ViRGE /DX works best--but not
very good.  I end up with a strange block (changes color based on mouse
movement) following the mouse cursor and a gray/white background.  Of
course, this is produced by the XFree86 test configuration program.  Exiting
this program causes the screen to produce a dual screen affect on a single
monitor (while in FreeBSD shell mode).  Is the S3 ViRGE/DX/GX supported?
Any suggestions?
