RENDER initialized but missing

sorry if this is not the right list and also, please, keep me in cc: because i am not subscribed. i have an ASUS S1325 with the Intel i830m. the i810 driver from xfree 4.2.0 on linux 2.4.18 works well but even if the log says: (II) Initializing built-in extension RENDER xdpyinfo does not show the RENDER extension and both KDE and GDK complain about the missing extension. what's happening?
