OSD like workspace desktop caption

Hi,

I currently use xosd for momentary on-screen display for various
things, but it's pretty ugly.  I like the way the WM workspace desktop
caption works, and was wondering if there is a way to make arbitrary
messages appear using the same mechanism?

I had a very quick look through the source, and it would seem to be a
matter of pulling the showWorkSpaceName function apart a bit and
making a main to allow invoking it from the command line?
