adding a custom shortcut key

How can i go about adding a custom shortcut key? Say CTRL+R (for the same
RUN box that comes up from the menu), or CTRL+S to exec 'xmms -s'.

I've done a bit of searching but haven't found much. If you could point me
in the right direction, or could paste an example i'd really appreciate
it.
