The best way to add shortcut keys to Window Maker without depending on other software is to
add an entry to the RootMenu using Wprefs.app each entry can have an assigned shortcut to it

I infact have F6 and F7 assigned to xmms -s and xmms -p 
and ctl+shift+r to a run window
