fbdesk works with WindowMaker!

One thing I want in my environment is the ability to place icons on the
background. I've been really disappointed since the Gnome team
packaged background icon management into the nautilus management of the
background (my favorite WindowMaker feature is different pictures on
different backgrounds, and Gnome killed that).

In the Fedora Extras, I noticed the "fbdesk" package, an icon manager
for the Fluxbox window manager. Would it work with WindowMaker? Yes! I
didn't want to install Fluxbox itself, so I downloaded the source
(http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/fbdesk/) and compiled it and it does run
with WindowMaker. I don't have Fluxbox installed at all, so I know the
two things are really independent.

You have to manually create ~/.fluxbox, where it stores its
configuration. I did not learn how to customize icons yet...

Got any other proposals for icon placement on WM backgrounds?
