Brian,
Welcome to BackpackGearTest.org, and thanks for your Owner Review. I’ll be your editor. This is a good start at a first OR, and I look forward to working with you to get it ready for posting.
My edits below are in standard BGT format:
EDIT (all caps) – required change
Edit (initial cap) – suggested change or request for clarification
Comment – just that, no change required
Many edits refer to BGT conventions. I urge you to review carefully the How to Become a Tester tab on our website, where many of these are explained.
After revising you need to do two things. Post the html version of the Report in the Tests/Owner Reviews folder on BackpackGearTest.org, and post the plain text version here, with "Repost," the product name, and your name in the subject line, and with a tinyurl link to the html version in the body of your message.
Cheers, Richard Lyon
BGT Editor

### 170 lbs/77 kilos ###
EDIT: 170 lb [BGT abbreviations are always singular.]
EDIT: 77 kg [Same – and kg is the BGT abbreviation for kilograms.]
### Vestavia Hills, Alabama ###
EDIT: Add "USA" or "United States" at the end.
### Backpacking background: ###
Comment: Very well done.
### REI ###
EDIT: Recreational Equipment, Inc. [Here – but only here – BGT requires the manufacturer's full legal name.]
### 2011 ###
EDIT: Indicate what this date refers to – is this the year you purchased yours?
### 16 ounces/.45 kilogram ###
EDIT: This is REI's listed weight. Indicate that and add your measured weight.
### $29.50 ###
EDIT: Indicate that this is REI's MSRP [manufacturer's suggested retail price]
General EDIT: Please add a paragraph or two indicating under what conditions you used the mug. As you've owned it for several years we don't need specifics, but perhaps give a summary and one or two extreme conditions.
### REI has left this stainless steel mug unchanged over the years for the basic reason that it works. ###
EDIT: You don't know this for a fact. As such it's what BGT calls "projection," and not allowed. You could fix by adding "I suspect" at the beginning of the sentence.
### The handle is sturdy and has holes available to carabiner it to your pack. ###
EDIT: By using the second person ("your pack") you are again projecting. BGT Reviews and Reports are limited to first-hand experience, so beware any use of "you" or "your." Change to "my pack." Look through your entire Review for other uses of "you" and "your."
General EDIT: Add a couple of sentences describing how you brew coffee with the mug.
### Bottomline is that it is worth the weight on your pack. ###
EDIT: Bottom line [two words]
EDIT: my pack [See above.]
