Longest Trail in the Nation is…not…Quite…Done

OT, but where else to post? Who has time to hike 4,600 miles? Only 11
people todate have done this whole trail.

The North Country National Scenic Trail runs 4,600 miles from North
Dakota to New York’s eastern border. From there, it’s about 40 miles
across Vermont fields and mountains to the Appalachian Trail, the
famous 2,170-mile hiking trail that runs from Georgia to Maine. But
that last 40 miles have yet to be bridged — two decades ago Vermonters
blocked construction. Now, at long last, the NPS and Vermont’s Green
Mountain Club are working together to construct the final link. And
then maybe finally, the NCNST will finally get some cred. It needs it.
Thousands of folks have hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail,
but just 11 people have hoofed the whole North Country Trail. Via CBS
