Re: Your opinion...overnighter turned nasty...

Hi John:

1. Quite experienced, however, we were setting up my friend's tarp and
needed to get there in daylight. He didn't show up until later in the day
so we thought we'd see how it goes.
2. Yes, thanks for the correction - Gatewood Cape. My friend had an 8x10
sil tarp and we thought of cutting and putting guylines on it for the
evening.
3. No...just me on the cape. He had the tarp but no guylines yet. We still
had to cut them.
4. Hot - plenty of food: Mountain house with soups and chocolate of course!
5. Gloves for snow and liner gloves, plus some windstopper as well. Possum
down hat, Marmot Precip shell, Marmot driclime shirt (which was amazingly
warm), Marmot driclime zip pants, tyvek groundcloths; he had an REI
minimalist bivy with a marmot atom down bag. We both had alcohol stoves and
plenty of alcohol, firestarter, lights, waterproof matches, lighters,
flintsteel.
6. Just on the outside, wet, but I only had on my driclime and a smartwool
longlseeve zip. Quite comfortable.
7. Just what's listed above. Good choices though. My WM bag was a
Summerlite, combined with a BPL Vapr bivy.
8. I am but my friend is not.
9. It came to me when we arrived. We were still a 1000 feet lower than our
campsite, but since we were only 3 miles in, I just called it, since it was
only an overnighter. Better to enjoy it, since it was such a short trip,
then suffer...

I HAVE TO SAY, THANKS TO ALL THUS FAR. I HAVE LEARNED MUCH. I WAS LOOKING
FOR DIFFERENT ANGLES TO APPROACH THIS. I SO APPRECIATE ALL OF THE INPUT!
THIS WASN'T A BAD DECISION, BUT A QUICK OVERNIGHTER. I JUST WANTED EITHER
SOME DIFFERENCES IN TECHNIQUE OR GEAR.
