Thanks, Doug! Do you have weights on the Uniqlo? This is the polyester, rayon, acrylic, spandex blend? Will be interested to hear about rest of your vbl system. best, Bill --- On Mon, 12/10/12, Douglas O'Heir <[email protected]> wrote: From: Douglas O'Heir <[email protected]> Subject: [BackpackingLight] Re: Ultralight synthetic base layer To: [email protected] Date: Monday, December 10, 2012, 10:01 AM I was recently in NYC and stopped by a store called Uniqlo where they sell a type of synthetic long underwear called "HeatTech". So far, I've worn it cycling on about a 40 mile trip in 40 degree weather, and I found it comfortable. It's been odor free, and it dried remarkably fast. I usually have to change my inner layer fairly quickly once I stop, but the HeatTech was OK to leave on once I changed the outer wool layer soaked with sweat. I'm also planning on trying it with my VBL system over the next few weeks, and I'm encouraged that it may work better than the thin merino that I used previously. It's also relatively affordable - $20 for a long sleeve top and the same for long johns. Doug
