Thanks for the thoughts, folks.   Looks like the lightest (and cheapest) Kindle only weighs 6oz.   Kinda silly to get the Kobo if it's only an ounce heavier but harder to get content.    I guess it doesn't have backlight, but I don't hike much in the winter anyhow.
