I went to the groups site, and searched the archive for this topic. The member that asked apparently hasn't used this group in a year or so. So it looks like we won't get feedback. The reason I asked, I have been using 2 Kuhn-Rikon pressure cookers at home, and was simply curious about what he found. I cook hard brown rice in 15 minutes. Beans in a hour. I have no plans taking one on a hike. And, I don't climb any more. Here was the original: "Let me explain my interest in pressure cookers a little further. I concur that if all you wish to do is heat food, pressure cookers are a bit over kill. However, I have spent a considerable amount of time in areas where water purity was problematic. I was at altitudes to which I could not could carry sufficient water. I customarily boiled water at night for the next day's consumption. Without a pressure cooker I could not easily reach the 100 degrees C necessary to kill most "critters". The problem of contaminated food is similarly dealt with.
