I have also had good luck with them, never had a leak.  However I put them
inside a baggie just to be on the safe side.  Yes, adds dead weight, but
only a tiny amount.


As others have mentioned, for solid fat a wide mouth jar would be easier to
use, I think I have seen Nalgene brand versions of those too but I have not
tried them.  The chance of leakage could be higher.


Yet another option, which I have only read about and not tried:  powdered
butter.  Also powdered shortening.  And yes a google search reveals there's
also coconut oil powder, although it seems to often be used to feed horses
... sooo caveat emptor, I've never tried any of those powdered fats.  Giddy
up.
