Presumably every so often you have to remove and clean the stocking from the bag ?

If you get a woman's stocking, cut it short enough to push the foot part into your dirty water bag, it'll serve as a prefilter so you don't need to worry a whole lot about back-flushing.  There are other methods but that's the easiest one.  I got the idea from someone else.
