I have enjoyed reading these many posts, and thank folks for their good suggestions. I believe our natural environment is threatened by excessive consumerism, so I have grown increasingly skeptical of buying more to engage the outdoors. So the suggestions to DYI for stoves and other necessary gear are great. Along those same lines, one can find great gear at thrift stores and clearance sales. I have spent under $5 each for fine merino 1/4 zip sweaters at Thrift Town, and as much $20 at Dilliards Dept Store for the same. Thrift Town also had REI, Arctyrex and Sportif items. The scratch and ding sales at REI can be awesome, and often offer a venue to meet other conscious and creative campers like our selves. So go light, and go patiently in acquiring gear. The values are mostly already in the consumer pipeline; try to be in the right place when they are discarded by original owners! Save the planet, and save some dough.
