I attended a "backpacking light for scouts" seminar about a year ago in Austin, the videos are on line and easy to find via google. They are a great place to start your journey. They also give links to great suppliers.

Remember light is great, ultra light requires experience. Ultra light is not always your best option.

I would rather spend 100-200 on a american owned and made backpack than something from Walmart and that is true for almost every piece of gear.
