I go to the Grand Canyon a lot, and like many backpackers there, I mostly sleep out in the open (i.e. no tent). Because of the creepy crawlies and the wind, I prefer to be fully enclosed (so bag instead of blanket).

Works great, quite comfortable down to 30 deg. after that I put on a baselayer. My wife customized it for me, removing the straps, most of the elastic, and sewing the face hole closed. This allows it to be used as a blanket with a footbox without being strapped in.

They're kinda like the Big Agnes system, where there's not much insulation on the bottom, so an insulated pad is required to complete the thermal envelope. But instead of using a pad sleeve, they use straps. Apparently they work with wide pads (i.e. 25"), which I require; none of the BA bags that meet my weight/volume requirements work with pads larger than 20".
