Got a question ... WHY should I wash my clothes after spraying them?

They're good for six washes according to the label ... so if I wash them after they dry out, I have reduced the effectiveness by 1/6th and shortened the protection.

I'm starting in MD in May ... I expect I won't need tick protection by NH ... or will I?

I know I might need black fly protection even as far North as Maine ...

That for me is 'the question' of the day.

Thanks, Coosa

The typical dilution is to 0.5%, not 5%. Damn decimal points!

The question of the difference between Sawyer's product and what you can find in garden centers has been vexing me. It appears that the large majority, if not all, of the lawn and garden and veterinary products contain petroleum distillates in the carrier ingredients, even though the active ingredients are the same. Sawyer products have no petroleum distillates listed on their labels. I am reluctant to spray a petroleum-based product on my hi-tech clothing. Would the petroleum impact the moisture transport qualities of merino wool? Or the water repellent properties of a DWR coating? I don't know.

I have found one product (Martin's Permethrin concentrate) that claims to be petroleum-distillate-free, although I've not seen the label in person.

The driver here is, of course, the large price difference between Sawyer's and garden/vet products.
