I am in the UK and have a Travel Tap bottle filter which I think it is similar to the Sawyer bottle. Yes you have to dip the whole bottle but it is easy to squirt the filtered water into your pot or Platypus without contamination. I rarely drink straight from the bottle. 

I also have an inline filter for a hanging system i.e dirty water platy ,clean platy and tubes but I rarely find a tree branch at the right height for the system. It is more hassle than the Travel Tap but better if you want a lot of water.
