micahel,
Yeah, 25 MINIMUM weight would be bad. I carry about 23 pounds pack weight for 10 to 14 days. My base weight is 8 pounds with no luxuries.
10x10 tarp, line, stakes, hiking staff:: 22oz
Cook Kit, 2 water bottles: 26oz
Bag, pad, sleeping cloths, down jacket: 58oz
Misc stuff: 11oz
Pack: 8.5oz
Rain Jacket: 5.5oz
(excluding water, fuel, misc consumables -deet, AM drops, afterbite, etc.)

Lightweight is less than 20 pounds base weight
Ultralight is less than ten pounds
SUL is less than 5 pounds
XSUL is less than 3 pounds
    My thoughts only . . .

Maybe I should make myself clear here. Generally not knowing the full details of any given statement, I am reading things my way, each of you read them yours.

If I go to say REI, Sport Chalet, Bass Proshops or whatever and the backpack they are trying to sell me, unless it is serious multi-day trip pack, 75 liters and up, where you would have more weight, to simply make it comfortable you have to put 25 lbs in it, that is not a pack I want for short jaunts. I also am making this assumption because in some stores there is limit knowledge in floor staff and a traditional mindset is still common.
