[Ebbc-Talk] Highway 239 Corridor study

Fellow Cyclists,
 
A  consultant for the CCTA is looking for bicyclists who are willing to serve on the 
STAKEHOLDER COMMITTEE for the federally funded Highway 239 Corridor Study.
He stressed that he was particularly interested in Board Members of both the Delta
Pedalers and the East Bay Bicycle Coalition.
 
The committee will consist of a mix of 14 citizens including environmentalists, 
agriculturalists, representatives of business, and of course transportation activists 
including bicyclists.  
 
The individual with whom I spoke, Andrew Hill, of the Planning Center in Oakland, 
mentioned that this committee would be "informal."  We went on to discuss the other
two committees funded by this federal earmark , one the Policy Oversite Committee 
comprising elected officials, and the other a Technical Advisory Committee 
comprising planners and  transportation engineers.  
 
There will probably be a series of 6 to 8 meetings during the remainder of this year and 
the first part of next year.   The first meeting will be held sometime in May.  The exact date 
and time has not been determined.  When asked, Andrew was somewhat taken aback that I 
would expect evening meetings.  He adjusted my expectations to "a combination of day 
and evening" meetings.
 
The consultant  was firm that the meetings would take place in Mountain House, half way between 
the two extremes of the study area, Brentwood and Tracy.   He also mentioned that "freeway" was not 
the only option on the table as we define the facility type.  "We will study potential alignments in this 
corridor for all modes,"  he maintained.  (Given the dearth of public transportation options available 
to Mountain House,  the probability of many non-motorists attending is, alas, somewhat diminished....)
