Hi there,
very interesting discussion once again!

On the first thought I would also say that I trust people by default.
But when I think about it more deeply I find it's actually much more
complicated. (see below)

Duncan said that he looses trust when people behave in unpredicted ways.
That's a good explanation, I think.
I also loose trust when people "let me down", when they behave in a way
that I didn't expect. In addition the situation must be of value to me.
And I would also say that I don't loose trust in general, but I balance
trust on several levels. And of course trust can be regained.
Whenever someone behaves in a way that I didn't expect I also check
whether I did something to the situation myself. Maybe I didn't clearly
express my expecations?

A friend of mine told me about an interesting concept about trust:
Something in our brain constantly measures trust levels.
We trust in our car, that it will take us to work. We trust in
ourselves, that we are good enough a driver to get there safely. We
trust in other drivers to drive safely too, so we don't get into an
accident.
While we drive we constantly measure the other cars around us. If
someone drives in a strange (unexpected) way, we loose trust in the
other persons driving abilities and drive even more defensive.
When the other person drives normaly afterwards, we regain trust quickly.
I would say that similar things happen in our interactions with people.
A lot of that stuff happens intuatively.
So when I said at the beginning that I trust people by default I
actually intuatively measure the trustlevel and come to the conclusion
that trust level is ok.
Sometimes I meet people that I don't trust so much, but I can't really
give a reason for that. They just have something in their apprearence
that makes me intuatively reduce trust in them.
Coming back to the subject: "Trust and Resistance".
I think that lost in trust leads to resistance. When I loose the trust
in my driving abilities, for example because I make an accident, I
resist drivin my car again.
Greetings,
Malte
